Summary of Requirements

Prior to ordering chemicals

  • Verify that the least hazardous chemical suitable for the job is ordered
  • Verify that only the minimum quantity required is ordered.
  • Ensure that only properly trained individuals order chemicals.
  • Contact Environmental Health & Safety if there are any questions.

Prior to working with chemicals

  • Employees must complete the Online Safety Training.
  • Students working with chemicals MUST complete either the standard Online Safety Training, or an equivalent developed by their department.
  • Refer to the MSDS or product label for use and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ensure that a Department Chemical Hygiene Plan is approved and in place.

Annually

  • Employees who work with chemicals MUST complete the Online Safety Training.
  • Submit an electronic format inventory to the Environmental Health and Safety Office.
  • Review and update the Department Chemical Hygiene Plan as required.

Each Semester

  • Inspect the chemical storage and use areas.
  • Coordinate collection and disposal of chemical waste.
  • Inspect designated chemical waste Satellite Accumulation Areas.
  • Students must complete Online Safety Training, or an equivalent developed by their department.

UCCS Chemical Inventory

Tier2 Reporting Software is the format required by the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

Alternately, an excel inventory using the example format and inventory guide are available.  Note: an Excel Viewer is available from Microsoft.
