SECURITY AWARENESS
AND CRIME PREVENTION PROGRAMS
The University Police
Operations Division, within the
Department of Public Safety, offers a number of programs that promote security
awareness and crime prevention. All University police officers are dedicated
to crime prevention. In addition to departmental programs, the Police
Department cooperates with other units on campus to present security and safety
programs.

Bicycle Safety?Police Officers assigned to the
Police Mountain Bike Patrol offer classes on bicycle
safety and skills to a variety of age groups to include
pre-school and elementary age.

Office Watch - Office complexes are given a Security survey and
enrolled in Operation ID. Office
personnel are trained to recognize and confront
suspicious persons and to notify the
police.

Each Semester Rape Aggression Defense -- (R.A.D.)-
RAD is a hands-on, self defense, and risk reduction
education program. It is designed to teach the student
realistic ways to defend and protect
oneself from sexual and abductive assaults. University Police
offer four different R.A.D. self-
defense courses which are taught by nationally-certified
instructors:
Basic Self Defense: Twelve-hour course for
women designed to teach empowerment, risk reduction
and self-defense techniques.
Advanced Self-Defense: Incorporates skills learned in Basic
Self-Defense. This sixteen-hour course,
for women only, adds higher stress environments and advanced
defensive skills.
Key Chain Defense: This four-hour women-only class teaches
defensive techniques using both a key
chain and flashlight.
